Thinking Wilderness is a year-long online thinkers-in-residence program and event series in Questa, New Mexico, featuring diverse voices and creative works on wilderness.

The 50th anniversary of the U.S. Wilderness Act offers a poignant opportunity to reflect on fifty years of wilderness protection and to consider its role in the 21st century and beyond.

Thinking Wilderness provides an international platform for debate, exchange, discovery, research, celebration and reflection on wilderness in multiple forms and venues both online and through live events. The project invites “Wilderness Thinkers” to explore existing and yet to be imagined experiences and definitions of wilderness. There is no limit to how many people can participate. “Thinkers” can be from anywhere.  The only requirement is that creative works (essays, poems, songs, videos, stories, drawings, paintings, interviews etc.) relate to wilderness.
